Revised mass determination of the super massive Wolf - Rayet star WR 22 ?
We analyze the orbital motion of the WN 7+abs + O binary WR 22 based on 88 high resolution optical spectra obtained in 1996. We determine a period of P = 80.336±0.0013 d and a radial velocity semi-amplitude KWR = 70.6±0.8 km s−1 for the Wolf-Rayet star. By averaging six He i lines it is possible to detect the weak absorptions of the O companion. The spectral class of the O star is O 9 III (O 8–...
متن کاملTriggered massive star formation in the vicinity of WR 48a
We utilise Midcourse Space Experiment mid-IR imaging and published data to discuss the (massive) star formation region at galactic longitude ∼305◦, apparently associated with the Wolf Rayet WR 48a and the attendant clusters Danks 1 and 2. A spectacular three lobed wind blown bubble surrounds the aforementioned sources, for which we may infer a minimum age of ∼3 Myr from the presence of the WCL ...
متن کاملGeV gamma-rays and TeV neutrinos from very massive compact binary systems: The case of WR 20a
Massive Wolf-Rayet stars in a compact binary system are characterized by very strong winds which collide creating a shock wave. If the wind nuclei, from helium up to oxygen, accelerated at the shock can reach large enough energies, they suffer disintegration in collisions with soft thermal radiation from the massive stars injecting relativistic protons and neutrons. Protons collide with the mat...
متن کاملThe colliding - wind binary WR 140 : the particle acceleration laboratory
WR+O star binary systems exhibit synchrotron emission arising from relativistic electrons accelerated where the wind of the WR star and that of its massive binary companion collide-the wind-collision region (WCR). These " colliding-wind " binaries (CWB), provide an excellent laboratory for the study of particle acceleration, with the same physical processes as observed in SNRs, but at much high...
متن کاملParticle Acceleration in the Colliding Winds Binary Wr 140
RESUMEN Favor de proporcionar un resumen en español. If you cannot provide a spanish abstract, the editors will do this. Massive WR+O star systems produce high-temperature, shock-heated plasma where the wind of the WR star and that of its binary companion collide-the wind-collision region (WCR). The WCR is a source of thermal (e.g. hard X-rays) and non-thermal (e.g. synchrotron) emission, the l...
